Below are a few awesome emails I received from my students
I have attended classes by Valerie Toliver for 6 years. I have found her to be extremely talented and generous with her talents for her students. Teaching and mentoring by showing how it’s done and then guiding the student as they develop. She teaches technique but never interferes with each students individual style. She remains honest in her assessments, and find individual strengths to encourage with each student.
"She knows where to put the paint..and can tell you what small extended line will make the difference between an ok outcome and a spectacular project. She coaches you- showing the technique, letting you do it and then asks what did I do differently to allow the student to learn by observation. I have been with her 4 years and I continue to attend her sessions- because I learn something new each time. She is incredibly supportive of her students' own style and encourages one's strengths while nudging them to try new things...she shares what she knows and learns. Can't get better than that!"
Hi to my saturday artsy friends from paris. Have painted four pictures before leaving MN and am taking many pictures for us to paint next winter. Thanks again Val for changing my life as I am seeing the world clearer and painting everything I see in my mind!!!!! Love from the Paris traveler; Carol B. 5/5/12
Hi Valerie, I want to thank you so much for your teaching methods, your experience and your expertise! In just two classes, you have made a world of difference for me to want to pursue watercolor painting, as I finally see myself being successful to accomplish my desires. I am so encouraged by your teaching techniques and your advice to buy the correct supplies, so that I now can see the results I desire. Now I want to paint more and more, and it is NOT stressful and frustrating. Thank you again, Tynette
Hi Valerie, I'm really enjoying your class. Fun techniques, attention to students needs, demonstrations that are more instruction and education than the usual, "Here is how I do this...". I really appreciate that you explain the "whys" and "hows". Rita
