Watercolor painting is about “saving the light.”
To do so, paint “negative” areas around light areas with dark color.
In this exercise, you will create a wash of transparent color,
then paint dark color around shapes so they appear to be something
~ like tulips, leaves and stems.
The areas that are “saved” show the white of the paper
through the transparency of the lighter color of paint.
